Gold is a wonderful substance. Gold is malleable enough to make jewelry, driver enough for use in electronics, rare enough to be quite valuable. A gold ring is seen as a good piece of beautiful jewelry – but no other details on the use of gold in a ring.
First, not everyone reacts well to gold. For some, the gold, you can simply leave marks on your skin color. Others are not so lucky. Gold is also difficult to protect and maintain in good condition. Gold is likely to tarnish, and can be very difficult to clean properly, without damaging its surface smooth. White gold is also difficult to maintain, because the layer of rhodium wears away easily with regular use, and must be re-applied on an annual basis.
Gold is also still very rare. It is estimated that if every ounce of gold that was used throughout the history of the world were melted and converted into one piece, which would form a cube just 66 feet in height, length and depth. Such rarity means that gold prices are always going to be quite high.
Considering all these factors, a gold ring may not be the best choice for your next piece of jewelry. That does not mean you should get rid of anyone who currently has, of course – but you should be aware that there are other metals for the manufacture of the rings, and make an intelligent selection.
